Job Description
Job Summary:
The Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining industrial cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials on construction sites, warehouses, or manufacturing facilities. This role requires a strong understanding of load calculations, rigging techniques, and safety regulations to ensure efficient and accident-free operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate various types of cranes (tower, mobile, overhead, gantry) to lift and position loads according to project specifications
- Conduct pre-operational inspections of crane components, controls, and safety devices
- Perform load calculations and verify load limits to prevent overloading
- Communicate effectively with riggers, signalers, and site supervisors using hand signals or radios
- Adhere to OSHA, ANSI, and company safety standards, reporting incidents or hazards promptly
- Maintain accurate logs of crane usage, maintenance, and inspections
- Assist in the setup and teardown of crane equipment and rigging gear
- Collaborate with project managers to schedule crane operations and resolve logistical challenges
- Stay updated on industry best practices and technological advancements in crane operation
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified crane operator training program preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating industrial cranes in construction or manufacturing settings
- Valid crane operator license or certification (e.g., OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178, NCCI, or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of load charts, rigging techniques, and safety protocols
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and signalers
- Physical stamina to work in various weather conditions and lift heavy components
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to multiple job sites if required
