Scope of Work
The outsourced Shift Chemist shall be
responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of cement production
through real-time monitoring, testing, and reporting. The role includes both
laboratory and field-based activities.
Shift Coverage
Round-the-clock (3 shifts/day)
Key Responsibilities
Sampling & Testing
- Collect samples of raw materials (clinker,
gypsum, fly ash), additives, and final cement as per defined frequency.
- Conduct chemical analysis (e.g., LOI, SO₃,
chloride, free lime) using wet chemistry and instrumental methods (XRF, XRD).
- Perform physical tests (fineness, setting
time, compressive strength, soundness) as per BIS/ASTM/EN standards.
Process Monitoring
- Monitor grinding parameters (mill output,
Blaine, residue) and provide feedback to production for optimization.
- Track clinker quality.
- Ensure corrective actions are taken based on
lab results.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain shift-wise records of all test
results and observations.
- Update SAP/LIMS or other digital platforms
with real-time data.
- Prepare daily and monthly quality reports for
internal review.
Instrument Handling &
Maintenance
- Operate and maintain lab equipment: XRF,
Blaine apparatus, Vicat, muffle furnace, etc.
- Ensure calibration and upkeep of instruments
as per schedule.
- Report any equipment malfunction immediately.
Compliance & Safety
- Follow all lab safety protocols and PPE
requirements.
- Handle chemicals and samples as per MSDS
guidelines.
- Support internal and external audits (ISO,
BIS, EMS, etc.).
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with production, packing, dispatch, and
quality teams for smooth operations.
- Participate in trials, new product
development, and customer complaint resolution.
Deliverables
- Shift-wise test reports and logbooks.
- Calibration and maintenance records.
- Audit compliance documentation.
- Monthly summary of quality KPIs.
Qualification & Experience
Required
- B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry or equivalent.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in cement
industry lab operations is preferable.
- Familiarity with BIS/ASTM standards and cement
testing protocols.
